MXGP ROUND 08 – RUSSIA

L’ottavo round della stagione 2019 della MXGP, il Gran Premio di Russia, si è disputato questo fine settimana sulla velocissima pista di Orlyonok, dove si è corso per il terzo anno consecutivo. Tony Cairoli, reduce dalla difficile prova francese, è arrivato in Russia ben motivato a far bene su una pista a lui poco congeniale. Decimo al termine delle prove libere il siciliano ha agguantato il quinto cancello per la gara di qualifica, al termine di una positiva sessione cronometrata. Scattato bene al via della gara del sabato, Tony ha trovato un ottimo ritmo e buone traiettorie durante la manche, recuperando posizioni e facendo segnare il giro veloce della gara, prima di incappare in una brutta caduta che lo ha lasciato a terra senza fiato. Impossibilitato a continuare, Cairoli ha preso la via dei box, vedendosi costretto a partire dal venticinquesimo cancello nelle due manche della domenica. Dolorante ma mai domo, il nove volte Campione del Mondo si è schierato al via consapevole di non poter puntare alla vittoria ma deciso a lottare per portare a casa il maggior numero possibile di punti. Scattato bene al via di gara uno il pilota del team KTMRedBull Factory Racing è stato toccato da un avversario, passando così alla prima curva fuori dai venti, vedendosi costretto ad una gara di rimonta, resa difficile da una pista dura, scivolosa e mono traiettoria, conclusa in dodicesima posizione. Il secondo via della giornata è stato migliore e TC222 ha curvato a ridosso della top ten, lanciandosi all’inseguimento dei rivali con la sua KTM 450 SX-F e rimontando fino al quarto posto finale, con una grande prova di carattere. Al termine dell’ottavo round del Mondiale FIM di Motocross 2019, Cairoli è secondo a 13 punti dalla testa della classifica, con ancora 10 Gran Premi da disputare.

Antonio Cairoli: “E’ stato un weekend molto difficile e, naturalmente, l’incidente di ieri non mi ha aiutato, perché ha condizionato molto la scelta del cancello di oggi. Ero molto rigido e mancando una buona partenza era quasi impossibile ottenere un buon risultato su questa pista; tutti infatti guidavano ad una velocità molto simile. Abbiamo perso la tabella rossa, ma la cosa positiva è che non mi sono ferito gravemente, mentre oggi abbiamo visto alcuni brutti incidenti finire male. Ci siamo allontani un po’, ma ci riprenderemo e ora guardiamo alla Lettonia, che è una bella pista, dove proveremo a recuperare un po’ di punti.”

The eighth round of the 2019 season of the MXGP, the Grand Prix of Russia, took place this weekend on the fast track Orlyonok, for the third consecutive year. TonyCairoli, after the difficult French GP, arrived in Russia well motivated to do well on a track didn’t suit a lot to him. Tenth at the end of the free practice, the Sicilian seized the fifth gate for the qualifying race, at the end of a positive timed session. Started well at Saturday’s race, Tony found an excellent pace and good trajectories during the heat, recovering positions and setting the fastest lap of the race, before haven an hard crash that left him breathless on the ground. Unable to continue, Cairoli took the pits, being forced to start from the twenty-fifth gate in the two Sunday’s heats. Sore and painful the nine-time World Champion has lined up aware of not being able to aim for the victory but determined to fight to bring home as many points as possible. The KTM RedBull Factory Racing Team rider got a good start at race one but was touched by an opponent, thus passing the first corner out of the twenty, being forced to a comeback race, made difficult by the hard, slippery and single trajectory track, ending in twelfth position. The second start of the day was better and TC222 passed the first corner close to the top ten, launching in pursuit of the rivals with his KTM 450 SX-F and reassembling to the fourth final place, with a great race. At the end of the eighth round of the 2019 Motocross FIM World Championship, Cairoli is second at 13 points from the top of the standings, with 10 more Grand Prix to go.

Antonio Cairoli: “A very difficult weekend and of course the crash from yesterday did not help as it meant I was totally on the outside for the gate pick. I was riding very stiff and by missing the start it is almost impossible to make a good result on this track; everybody is riding at a similar speed. We lost the red plate but the positive is that I’m not badly injured, and we saw some big crashes today. We walk away a bit banged-up but we will re-group and look to Latvia, which is a nice track, and to regain some points.”
