Last August, Jes Munk travelled to Aveyron, a beautiful historical site in the South of France, to take part in his first enduro: the Classic Aveyronnaise.
The first day went wonderfully and Jes discovered a friendly sport and a new way to discover landscapes.
Unfortunately though, on the second day, 24 August, just after the time control in Durenque, at the end of a path, Jes failed to stop and crashed heavily into a livestock truck.

Seriously injured, he was transported by helicopter to Rodez Hospital where doctors diagnosed multiple compound fractures to the left forearm, fractures to the right hand, the face, the ribs, the sternum and the pubis, as well as a pneumothorax and a liver injury.
He was operated in Rodez and stayed there in the intensive care unit till 5 September, where the French doctors judged him well enough to be transported back to Denmark on a medical aircraft.
Danish doctors were surprised to see how well he was recovering despite his dreadful injuries and put this down to his perfect physical condition.
Last week he was operated again during 4 ½ hours on his right hand.
Today Jes can move his fingers and walk. He is looking forward to starting training again in order to regain all of his physical abilities.

To his disappointment though, he won’t take part in one his favourite races, the Rallye des Pharaons.
