SHERCO RACE REPORT
The traditional Spanish/Portuguese tour marked the start of the E GP season.
Our SHERCO team riders arrived in good shape after numerous preparation races on the various national championships and were ready to fight.
Hamish Macdonald approached this tour with full confidence, he is the current leader of the Italian championship. In Spain Hamish finished 5th and 3rd in the E2 category, the highest category, he is currently in 6th and 5th place in EnduroGP. In Portugal he had an incredible start to the race, he was leading the race before crashing in the last Enduro test. He was able to finish in 4th place for the day. A knee Injury which he sustained in that crash kept him from starting the race on Sunday. It is not known if he will be able to start the race in Italy, that will depend on the condition of his knee.
Antoine Magain and Daniel McCanney are racing in E1 and E3 respectively. Their winter training has been disrupted by injuries and they are not yet at their best. They are 5th and 6th in the provisional classification of their category.
In the Junior class Zach Pichon was sensational! Zach simply won all four days! He was consistent and fast. Zach finished the two races as the solid leader of the Junior championship, with times that place him in the top 10 in EnduroGP! A great start for this young rider who is competing in his first enduro season.
For his part, Morgan Lesiardo achieved two podiums in Junior 2, he is also a former MX racer and is learning and continuing to progress.
Next EnduroGP is in June in Italy.
Spain:
“The world championship started in Spain last weekend; it was a very good weekend overall despite a few small problems at the start of each day.
I achieved a very good result in the super test on Friday evening and I had a good first special on Saturday morning. A problem with the rear brake caused me to lose more than 35 seconds in the Sp2. I gave the maximum all day to come back and won my first day in the world championship in the last special.
A small fall in Sp1 on Sunday morning did not put me in the best conditions, but I was able to come back during the rest of the stages and also won this second day!”
Portugal:
“I had an excellent weekend with a good super test (6th in scratch), and I raced consistently both days and made very few mistakes. I really felt the bike handled extremely well in the enduro test where I gained a lot of time on my opponents.
I finished these two days in the top 10 EGP (the unofficial scratch), which bodes well for the future!
A big thank you to everyone involved, I couldn’t ask for a better start to the championship.”
